TUITION & SUBSIDIES

Honouring Diversity is a foundational value at Paul Penna DJDS. The school warmly welcomes families from every part of the community. Admission is independent of family finances. Through our tuition subsidy program, we are committed to supporting families that want to provide a Jewish education for their children.

A number of our families receive some degree of tuition subsidies, based on their financial circumstances. UJA-Federation contributes financially to these subsidies. We run an annual fundraising campaign to fill the remaining gap between the year’s operational spending and our tuition income. Members of the Board of Directors and the Fundraising Committee recognize the importance of the task and are grateful for the opportunity to help.

The process for receiving a subsidy is highly confidential. Details of the application are reviewed by the Subsidy Committee, which is comprised of non-parent board members and outside accountants.

Since funding from UJA-Federation begins with Grade 1, our school’s Scholarship Program provides tuition assistance for Senior Kindergarten.  Applications are provided to families in the fall before SK entry and are due back by December.

For Grades 1-8, the JCAP (Jewish Community Assistance Portal) opens on May 1st with application submissions due by late May. Families are contacted regarding funding as applications are reviewed during June.

Have you heard about UJA Federation’s new Generations Trust Scholarship?

If you have not qualified in the past for tuition assistance or even considered the possibility of tuition relief, now is the time to explore a Generations Trust Scholarship.

Paul Penna DJDS is proud to be a participating school in UJA’s Generations Trust Scholarship, making Jewish day school more affordable for families in our community.

The Generations Trust Scholarship can help many families that may not currently qualify for traditional tuition assistance. If you have not qualified in the past or have not previously considered that this may be an option for your family, now is the time to explore a Generations Trust Scholarship.

Administered through UJA, the Generations Trust Scholarships can be accessed here. The application is simple and if your family qualifies, your tuition will be capped at a fixed percentage of your gross household income. The program is available to all families with children attending elementary (K-8) Jewish days schools in Toronto, including those with children at multiple Jewish day schools. Visit the Generations Trust Website to use the quick scholarship calculator, which will estimate your eligibility for a scholarship.

If you have questions about the process or the calculator, please feel free to contact Cheryl Fine at cheryl@djds.ca for more information.
