Social Studies is the academic space where children learn history and geography. The focus of the middle school curriculum is Canadian content, however world geography is also explored. As part of the Social Studies curriculum, students have an 8-12 lesson unit on Israel, as part of a three year Israel Education arch. Israel education is taught collaboratively by the Social Studies teachers and an Israel Educator and examines the history of modern Israel through a complex social studies lens.
Through a partnership with Adraba, our students are able to earn a Grade 10 history credit during an after-school program. This allows them a broader schedule choice in high school. It also adds some additional Canadian Jewish history to their middle school education.
