Paul Penna DJDS Wins Discover Diversity Award!
On October 13th, 2009, Middle School students, along with their peers at the Islamic Foundation School, received the annual Discover Diversity Award from the Canadian Centre for Diversity. This marks the first time that the award has been given to two schools at once.
The honour is in recognition of a cultural exchange initiative, spearheaded by Paul Penna DJDS teacher Seth Goldsweig, which sprang from a recent school tikkun olam theme of Building Bridges and Breaking Down Barriers.
The program's success was tangible at the award ceremony, as the students' enthusiasm spread to not only the parents and teachers in attendance but also to guest speaker Michael "Pinball" Clemons, who effusively expressed his pride in the students. Clemons is the Vice-Chair and former Head Coach, President and CEO of the Toronto Argonauts.
