Paul Penna Downtown Jewish Day School is a pluralistic, egalitarian SK-8 school whose purpose is to build strong foundations for individual accomplishment, community engagement, and Jewish identity in a diverse student body. We deliver an intellectual, creative, Jewish and general education for our students and their parents, celebrate diversity, and focus our thoughts and actions on social justice within our school, local, national, and global communities. The school currently has 150 students and is growing with two SK classes in the 2011_12 academic year.
TEACHING POSITIONS
Available Positions:
Mat Leave Replacement: Elementary School "Core Teacher", with a "can-do" attitude, to join our school team for the rest of this school year, and perhaps beyond. This is a full time position for an Ontario certified teacher with experience teaching general studies and some Judaic knowledge. Applications will be accepted until October 31, 2011.
Main Responsibilities of this role:
- Teach an elementary class as the Core teacher, including Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and some English-based Jewish studies.
- Duties related to student safety and well-being
- Professional development participation in a collaborative curriculum development program
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong general studies pedagogic content knowledge
- Some Judaic Studies background (Jewish history, social studies, prayer, holidays)
- Clear communication style
- Effective and warm classroom management style
- 2-3 year experience in a related position
- Openness to honouring a diversity of Jewish views and modes of identification
