Alan Ackerman
Alan Ackerman is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Toronto, the father of two children at Paul Penna DJDS, and currently sits on the Education and Religious policy committee. He earned his Ph.D. at Harvard University and his B.A. at the University of Pennsylvania. Alan is the author of a book on theater and American literature published by the Johns Hopkins University Press, co-editor of a recent volume of essays on modern drama published by Palgrave Macmillan and author of numerous articles and essays on topics ranging from Shakespeare to contemporary children’s films. Educational theory is one his primary research interests, and his current book project on Lillian Hellman includes extensive materials on language lessons and theories of liberal education. Alan is also the Editor of Modern Drama (a quarterly academic journal). He oversees all aspects of journal production, from selection and editing of articles, to management of the Editorial Advisory Board, staff, and budget. He has also served on numerous committees at the University of Toronto, working on projects in curriculum development, recruitment of new faculty, supervision of graduate student exams, and the distribution of grant funds in the humanities.
